Combating negative social control and honor-related violence

IMDi  continuously targets its efforts towards early detection of such control and violence, and endeavors to provide victims with necessary aid and protection.

One of the main measures in the Norwegian government's Integration strategy is providing services that are accessible, competent, and efficient. Part of this effort focuses on strengthening services targeting vulnerable children and young people who experience negative social control and honor-related violence from their families and extended networks.

IMDi employs the following specialized services targeting victims of negative social control and honor-related violence: minority advisors and the National Team for building competency on negative social control and honor-related violence. In addition, IMDi is responsible for the competency-building work of the integration advisors in the employ of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

IMDi’s minority advisors are deployed at schools around the country and are especially trained in detecting and aiding victims of negative social control and honor-related violence. The minority advisors work on several levels, including individual cases and competency-building in support services targeting children, youth and adults.

IMDi’s National Team for building competency on negative social control and honor-related violence specialize in long term competency-building in services combatting negative social control and honor-related violence. IMDi’s National Team targets schools that don`t have minority advisors, adult learning centres including the introduction programme for immigrants as well as refugee services and support services at large. The goal of competency-building is to enable local support services to detect and prevent cases of negative social control and honour-related violence.

IMDi  is responsible for the competency-building work of the integration advisors in the employ of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
